Improved sleep and comfort for this pregnant gal5
I was a little hesitant about purchasing this product regarding a few of the issues some reviews mentioned (price, quality, seam, size), but now that I have used it I am incredibly glad I bought it. I am 6 months pregnant, 5′7” and have a fairly slender build and sleep on a queen size bed with my husband.

Here are the things I love about this pillow:

1. My overall sleep time has increased and deep sleep has improved. I think this is because the pillow hugs all around my body and I can roll over without adjusting 4 pillows. Now I don’t even have to move the pillow, it is already where it needs to be.

2. Before pregnancy I always slept on my back and the switch to side sleeping has been incredibly difficult. This pillow has helped me feel comfortable on my side as well as offer kind of an in-between back and side position. Also, it has kept me from rolling on my back naturally while I sleep, which has been most helpful.

3. There are many positions to use this pillow as well as many positions you can assume with each pillow position. It also supports a growing belly very nicely.

4. I personally find the pillow stuffing to be pleasantly soft yet supportive at the same time.

5. This pillow is great for mid afternoon rests and short breaks.

6. Though it is a bit bulky it takes up only my half of the bed (queensize). My husband has not been annoyed or cramped because of it. In fact he often snuggles up against it in the night.

Cons: (minor ones at that)
1. A little pricey. But what price would you pay for a better, less miserable night of sleep.

2. Slightly rough pillowcase.

3. Less snuggle time through the night with hubby, but we can still be pretty close.

This pillow has fit my needs very well and has been worth the money.

**As an update. June 2008. This pillow has really helped me post partum. Nursing has been easier, it is very comforting to snuggle in when I’m feeling a little blue, and my body aches have been reduced thanks to it’s many support positions. I personally feel that I would not have been very comfortable without this pillow especially the last 2 months of pregnancy.

I have one additional complaint about it. the pillow case became quite nubby and even more rough in some spots (mostly the area that my feet and legs occupied).

THIS IS AWFUL1
Too thick, to short, and uncomfortable. I had a different body pillow before that I loved, but didn’t want to spend $100 on a new one, so I got the cheapy based on these recommendations, I used it once and I HATE IT.
1. OVER filled so you are propped up in weird places (your head is high, and legs are high, while your center is drooping down).
2. Cover does not go back on once it is washed it is HORRIBLE. It is cut so there are larger and smaller parts on the cover, my husband and I both could not get this thing back on.
3. the curve at the neck base is sharp so you either have to have your arm over the top so you can rest your head on it or you have to scoot way down so it doesn’t cut into your shoulders.
4. Base is too thick to support your belly
5. Fluffing or flattening the pillow doesn’t work, it is stuffed to the max
5. I am 5′3 and it comes to the top of my knees on one side and if it is cutting into my shoulder in the top it will come to my lower back.
6. To keep your whole hip/let supported you need to have your legs really bent as shown the pictures.
7. It doesn’t fold up or lay neatly anywhere
8. Not breathable

SPEND THE EXTRA $40 AND BUY THE COMFORT U WITH FIBER FILL, IT BREATHS, IS ADJUSTABLE WITH THE THICKNESS IN AREAS, AND IS LONG ENOUGHT TO COVER YOUR WHOLE BODY. FOLDS IN 2 SO THAT YOU CAN PLACE IT UNDER YOUR PILLOWS WITH YOU MAKE YOUR BED….. I WISH I WOULD HAVE STUCK WITH THAT…

Too large and hurts shoulders3
I am currently six months pregnant and having trouble getting comfortable at night. After reading the rave reviews, I purchased this pillow thinking it would be so great for me. I was disappointed when I tried it. Here’s why:

1. Getting the cover on and off to wash is a real pain.

2. The curved part digs into my shoulder and really hurts. I’ve tried to stretch the cover and shove another pillow there to help but the seam just really cuts into me.

3. It is absolutely HUGE and heavy. Since I cannot really use it as intended because of the shoulder problem, I flipped it upside down so I can use it as a regular body pillow. This is OK but the end of the pillow hangs off the bed and is heavy when I try to flip over with it. I toss and turn a lot so this creates a problem.

4. This pillow makes me so hot I wake up drenched in sweat.

I would recommend something smaller and more manageable. I don’t feel that this has helped me sleep better at all. I will keep trying different positions with it to see if I can make it work since I did pay a lot for it. I can’t really return it since we’ve already used it and washed the cover. :-(

The first of the Flintstones spin-offs, The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Exhibit (1971) featured the children of the Flintstones and Rubbles as teenagers in Bedrock high school-themed misadventures replete with Laugh-In style gags, jokes and a dance of the week ala The Archies. A chip off the venerable block or rather a “pebble off the ancient Flintstone,” Pebbles, too, had a catchphrase: “Yabba Dabba Doosie!” which [to Bamm-Bamm’s chagrin] signaled “a doosie of an conception” that typically got the gang into various danger. A Barney to Pebbles’ Fred, Bamm-Bamm, too, cringed at the mention of his best friend’s “intellectual ideas” and was also drafted into singing lead in their band [The Bedrock Rockers] because of his shower singing which was only sterling while he was in the shower in “The Golden Thunder” (a personal common of mine) . In addition to vast character designs, fun fresh characters Awful Luck Schleprock voiced by legendary Don Messick, teen inventor Moonrock and Bronto of the Bronto Bunch (both voiced by “Dash High Private Discover” Lennie Weinrib) plus gargantuan original music from novel Flintstones music director Hoyt Curtin, The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Explain also featured the voices of Sally Struthers (All in the Family) and Jay North (Dennis the Menace) as the teenaged title characters. Not to mention regular appearances from their parents plus an episode featuring the creepy Gruesomes. A cramped trivia: Sally Struthers also was the snarl of “Charlene Sinclair” from other prehistoric series Dinosaurs. The only negative I found with the note was that Bamm-Bamm, though a strapping lad, wasn’t as super-strong as he was on The Flintstones as “the world’s strongest baby.” Despite this, The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Demonstrate was one of the better Flintstones spin-offs (my well-liked) which I peaceful enjoyed and recommend.

I had alot of fun reliving my childhood watching this reveal after all these years.

A lot of people on here are expecting to pick this for The Bedrock Rockers musical segments but The Bedrock Rockers weren’t on The Pebbles and Bamm Bamm Reveal. Pebbles, Bamm Bamm and their friends appeared as The Bedrock Rockers on THE FLINTSTONES COMEDY HOUR, which premiered a year after this explain went off the air. The 4 bonus episodes on this collection only include the legend segments and not any of the musical segments. We’ll have to wait until Warner Bros. decides to release THE FLINTSTONES COMEDY HOUR to pick up the musical segments featuring The Bedrock Rockers.P

I consider most people who buy/rent this DVD have already seen the movie and know what they’re getting. There are a lot of apt reviews on this movie here at amazon.com but I only saw one that mentioned the quality of the DVD. It is absolutely bad. The companies who get these unlit, grainy DVDs need to know that the consumers aren’t going to net this type of low-quality transfer. I’d gladly pay a bit more money for a DVD that’s viewable. We know how helpful movies can search for on DVD. So why release a disc that looks as awful as this one? As consumers we need to put a question to better! Objective as VHS movies recorded in SLP or EP were unacceptable, so are DVDs that scrutinize as terrible as this Uncertain Business disc.

“Hazardous Business” is without a doubt one of the classics from the 80’s which I’ve continued to luxuriate in many times. This is simply a gargantuan movie with convincing acting, capable music, ample script and believable characters. While the dwelling isn’t anything too unusual, the above mentioned qualities design this movie fun to seek. Tom Flit, having the house to himself while his parents are away, carries out the fantasy of unbiased about every adolescent male by basically turning his home into a party haven with the inevitable consequences that follow. Rebecca De Mornay (it should be illegal to observe that estimable in a pair of tight jeans!) plays a prostitute that becomes Cruise’s “partner” in the contrivance of things and Joe Pantoliano plays her sleazy pimp and does a tremendous job in his role.

One thing that stands out about “Perilous Business” is that while technically a comedy, the tone is often murky in terms of sequence of events and the eerie (yet grand) instrumental music that heavenly worthy makes up the soundtrack. While others might not really like this, I deem it makes the movie stand out and avoid the over-the-top silliness that have caused many 80’s comedies to become dated by today’s standards. Don’t derive me bad, I worship those 80’s movies, but “Uncertain Business” has a clear quality to it that takes on a more serious tone while also maintaining the fun element.

And finally, I have to say that the DVD transfer is absolutely horrific. Extras are virtually non-existent and image/sound quality is abysmal. 2003 has advance and almost gone, so by now it’s pointless to hope for a 20th Anniversary Special Edition DVD. So if you intend to seize this salvage it on VHS. I can’t witness why anyone would want the DVD other than for longevity’s sake.

iPod sync and charge cable5
This cable is very well made, complete with push-button locks to secure it to the iPod. The extra length is something that is a real plus for me, since I can more easily reach the AC to USB charger I have plugged into my electrical outlet.

This cable worked out so well for me that I placed a return order for a second cable.

This is not a genuine Apple cable, but in my opinion it is better than what Apple supplies with the iPod.

Better than Apple5
This cord is longer and seems heavier duty than the one supplied by Apple. Works fine with my iPhone 3GS. The phone side connection is plastic on the part that inserts but the whole piece is beefier and I think it’s well worth the price. It’s nice to have a longer cord sometimes.

Very nice cable for the price5
I was given an ipod Mini with no accessories, so I wanted a very cheap/basic cable to play around with the device. Most stores don’t have such cables for less than $20, so less than $10 is quite a nice deal.

While I’ve never had an ipod, so I can’t compare this with an actual apple sync cable, I can say the quality is beyond my expectations. Everything fits together nicely and plugs into the ipod without any issues. I did try a Belkin plug earlier and it was very stiff. I was a bit disappointed when I saw the ipod end was plastic, but this should do just fine. It’s probably also partly why it fit into the I/O port easier than the metal-tipped Belkin cable.

All in all, a wonderful spare or replacement ipod sync cable.

As a scuba diver, sharks are what you want to recognize, especially the whale shark, but they are generally so jumpy they will certainly retain their distance.

The film sees Retract Stewart sight the `Darwin’s theory of evolution’ Galapagos islands and Costa Rica. Seize is a professional underwater photographer and videographer so the images he captures while gliding through the depths are radiant. That is until they turn to the finning operations, the corruption and images of sharks caught in a long lines where you can but ponder `what is humanity doing’.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Sharkwater! Click Here

This film really gives you a wake up call to the importance of the oceans and the sharks status at top of the food chain to hold everything balanced.

The books emphasis goes more on the role of the Sea Shepherd, the ocean’s eco systems and gives you a chance to see again at the gracefulness of the shark.

A must watch/read.

Sharkwater: The Photographs

A glorious and great documentary film about the illegal fishing of sharks for the Asian food market that is both riveting and fair to seek. The film documents director Prefer Stewart’s discovery and determination in letting the public know about the pickle of sharks being killed off. The High Def imagery/cinematography is simply unbelievable and I’m determined the Bluray disc will glimpse equally impressive as when I saw it on the AFI’ Silver Theatre DLP system in March of 2006. The film is notable in educating all about the misconceptions and slaughter of sharks, it is both enlightening and ultimately heartbreaking - highly recommended!

Customer Reviews:

Whoosh5
Here is the scene at our house since we opened the box for this slide. My daughter climbs it, slides down while saying “weeeee”, lands perfectly on her feet, runs around to the steps, and starts all over again until she is too tired to continue… which can go on for hours.

We got this slide for her 2nd birthday. Up until we got this we got hints that she wanted a slide when she started making ghetto slides out of cardboard boxes. After doing a bit of research we settled on this slide for a few difference reasons.

1. Its big! She can grow and grow but this slide should last her for years.

2. Its solid - Out of all the reviews I could find, this slide was the most sturdy and solid of the bunch. It never feels like its going to tip over, we weighted down the base with sand as well, and the rail on the slide keeps my little princess safe.

3. Angle of the slide - Most people might not think about this but the angle at which the child slides down is important. The other similar slides we looked at had a slide that almost was a straight shoot down. This is rough on a little childs legs and gives them a huge force of impact. However this slide has a little cruve at the end which softens the impact and pushes them away from the slide. This was the tipping point for us in our decision!!!

Other nice features but not deciding factors was how you can pull the slide together to put it away and the steps have a nice grip on them for bare feet children.

The only con we have so far is that it was expensive but no more than the others in this class or similar toys. We are concerned about how much bending the plastic will do in prolonged direct sunlight but so far have had no issue there… just a watch and see deal.

In any event my daughter loves this slide and we do too. I highly recomend this to anyone for their kids!

Worth it5
I had been eyeing this for a while and finally found a great deal on amazon […] It was between this slide and the Little Tikes Easystore Large Slide. After reading reviews regarding the difficulty assembling the Little Tikes Slide, ths seemed the easy choice. So far no complaints! We bought it for indoor use, so the kids can exert some energy during the months when its too cold or too hot to play outdoors.

Here are some of the perks:
1. Large enough to actually be fun.
2. Folds up for storage
3. NO ASSEMBLY REQUIRED!

Here are some of the cons:
1. Large
2. Folds up for storage
3. Our 3 1/2 yr old likes to hang on the plastic black bar you see in the picture. I’m concerned it might break.

You get the good with the bad on this purchase. Fortunately, the bad really isn’t so bad. It IS large, and since I bought it for indoor use we really have to open up a space in the room when we bring it out. If your plan is to use it outside then this won’t be an issue for you.

I’d say its about 5′5 when folded up. It fold ups easy and narrow. It really is meant to be hung when folded, because its doesn’t stay together. There aren’t any safety clips or anything. We have yet to hang it, so when its folded up against the wall we have to make sure its leaning or wedged in between something big so it won’t tip over.

I’ve read some complaints about the drop at the end of the slide. Yea, there is one, but I think it depends on the child how they handle it. My 1 1/2 year old doesn’t seem bothered by it. You can always slip a little pillow underneath to help.

Our only safety concern was the ladder, and this was when we first bought it 8 months ago. Our baby wasn’t yet a year and so we’d have to watch her carefully when she climbed up. All in all, this has been one of our better large toy purchases. I’m pleasantly surprised at how much use our kids have gotten out of it!

Good purchase5
We really like the natural color of the slide which we have on our back deck. My husband had an easy time assembling the slide. My son is 20 months old and we do still have to be right behind him when he climbs up the steps to get on the slide. I think the older he gets the more use we will get out of it. The slide is pretty high and the top a little narrow for the my son to get his feet facing forward, but otherwise we are really pleased with this product. We are expecting our second child and I feel we will get plenty of use out of this purchase. I decided to buy this particular slide because it was less expensive than the 129.99 version which had really good ratings.

From the Manufacturer
The Step2 Naturally Playful Big Folding Slide is the perfect addition to your backyard! This sturdy slide features natural colors and outdoor textures giving any play area a fresh new look.

Customer Reviews:

good deal - we’re happy with it4
We bake a loaf about every 5 days, usually basic white or honey wheat. We’ve also made herb breads, seed breads and pizza dough. This is our first and only bread machine so we’ve nothing to compare it to, but seems great to us. The loaves are beautiful and almost always perfect - we’ve only had one loaf that didn’t turn out (don’t know why). There’s a timer that lets us set it up the night before and wake to the smell of fresh bread baking… mmmm…… The paddle does tend to take a largish chunk of bread with it when the loaf comes out of the pan. The writing is hard to read as others have said, but we use the default setting 95% of the time so we don’t have to read anything - just hit start. For an inexpensive breadmaker, it’s really great. We’ve had ours 7 months.

Horizontal Loaf Breadmaker5
This Breadmaker is exactly what I had hoped for. In all my years of skirting around purchasing a Breadmaker, I never realized how easy it would be to use one and then we found this one on Amazon.com. My husband is the primary cook in our 2-member family, we are retired senior citizens, and he is very pleased. The breads are delicious and there was no trial/error period! The aroma of fresh cooking bread is so good! We find ourselves waiting anxiously for the end of the cooking cycle, slice it after it’s cooled, get out the butter/margarine and enjoy a very small piece and critique it. No failures! Thanks. jtf895@aol.com

Good Machine5
For the price, it’s a pretty good bread machine. One thing I would add is this… If you are not using the brand of yeast recommended by Breadman, your results may not be good. Their recipes were tested using Red Star Yeast Active Dry Yeast. Not all yeasts will yield the same result. Know how the yeast you’re using will perform.

I use an organic yeast, and when I used the amount recommended in the first white bread recipe, (1 Tbsp for a 2 lb loaf), the bread rose and fell. The taste was okay, but I knew when the loaf didn’t dome, that the problem was too much yeast.

I used (1 3/4 tsp of organic yeast for a 1 1/2 lb loaf) for whole wheat bread, and it came out absolutely perfect. The bread was just as good as the whole wheat bread I used to purchase at the grocery store for $3.50 a loaf. Now that I know that I have to adjust the amount of yeast since I’m not using the one tested for their recipes, I am very happy with my machine. I would not use a bread machine for quick breads because I prefer to do them by hand. I will only use my machine for yeast breads.

I have experience using bread machines and I know how my yeast performs thru trial and error. A novice would not have known that there are differences in brands of Active Dry Yeast. Also, through experience, I know that the relative humidity will affect the outcome of your bread. Check your bread while it’s kneading on a humid day to see if a little flour needs to be added, only adding a Tbsp at a time.

Cops Rock!5
In classic, Animal House style, this movie about a squad of bizarre state highway troopers is sure to entertain. While it appears to be what some may call “frat boy” humor, I find that many different kinds of people with a good sense of humor can enjoy this film.
Super Troopers is about a group of Vermont State Troopers, led by Capt. John O’Hagen (Brian Cox) whose department is in danger of shutting down. The governor (Lynda Carter) doesn’t have a big budget to spend on police work, and the more professional local cops, lead by Chief Bruce Grady (Daniel von Bargen), are the more likely candidates to get the money in the upcoming budget overhaul. And, to the casual observor, it would be the right choice. The state cops have a tendancy to play games with the people they pull over; one game involves one cop repeating everything his partner says, while another has one of the troopers saying “meow” instead of “now” in an attempt to drive the pulled-over motorist crazy. And when dealing with stoned teens, they really have a blast. While officers Ramathorne (Jay Chandrasekhar), Foster (Paul Soter), Mac (Steve Lemme), and “Rabbit” Roto (Erik Stolhanske) do everything in good humor, the force’s black sheep, Officer Rodney Farva (Kevin Heffernan) tends to go too far and get himself suspended and give the department a bad name (he jumped a fast food clerk for messing with him).
But when a murder on the highway is connected with a drug ring, the Super Troopers find a way to redeem themselves and get back in the governor’s good graces- as long as the meddling local cops don’t solve the case first.
This film is hilarious. While most of the humor is pretty “dumb”, there are a few intelligent things here and there, but it is the sheer wackiness of it all that makes it great. The romance between Foster and local cop Ursula Hanson (Marisa Coughlan) is great, especially the prank call sequence. Although, for people who aren’t into crude humor, this won’t be your kind of movie. There is a lot of drug-based humor, some nudity, and gratuitous use of the f-word. If you can get past that, I highly reccomend this movie.

A Complete Surprise5
When I first saw the previews to this film, I felt like I stepped into a time warp back to the 80’s. Was this movie trying to be Cannonball Run? Police Academy? Why? WHY?

On the recommendation of a friend, I swallowed my fears and my dislike of so-called “wacky” comedies and shelled out the cash to see Super Troopers. I was almost embarassed to even walk into the theater, but I’ll tell you what…it was the best $7 I’ve spent in a long time.

All the other reviews of this film seem to emphasize that the movie is “slapstick,” and “brainless.” I’d actually disagree with that diagnosis. On the contrary, I think this is really a very smart film. Why? Beacuse it doesn’t rely on formulaic plot devices, or try to squeeze in a contrived family-friendly moral(like the wretched “Orange County”). Rather, it just presents some of the most original, unexpected, laugh-out loud comedy I’ve ever seen. It’s just plain funny–Funny beacuse you don’t see the jokes, punchlines, or plot twists coming from a mile away.(Hey, “Orange County.” Once again, I’m looking at you!).

If you’re a fan of Kids in the Hall or the Upright Citizens Brigade, see this film. See it now. You won’t be disappointed.

Who wants a mustache ride?4
If you have a sick sense of humor like me, you’ll definitely appreciate Super Troopers. It’s a very off-beat and funny little movie that shows us into the lives of a state trooper’s department somewhere in Vermont. To protect and serve has no meaning here…it’s about making us laugh. The plot is about this department trying to save themselves from being shut down due to budget constraints. They desperately need to prove that they are still needed so they don’t lose their jobs. So they write lots of speeding tickets, but a drug bust could be their ticket to job salvation. However when you go along for the ride with these troopers, you’re in for much more than car chases (yes, you get those too). You get stoned college kids (and I won’t ruin it by detailing more…awesome), the repeater, meows, speeding Porsches, syrup chugging, and a ton of wacky little pranks along the way. I could go on all day about Super Troopers but I feel it’s a total disservice to someone who has never seen it. I absolutely love this movie and recommend it to anyone who needs a little more silliness in their lives, who loves to laugh and who wants a different comedy than the mainstream things you typically see mass produced by Hollywood where they practically beg of you to find things funny. Super Troopers is just one of those movies I wish they made more of. Enjoy!

The fine art of handing out a freeway speeding ticket gets a deviously funny twist in this smart-alecky farce written and performed by the comedy troop Broken Lizard (consisting of Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske). These pranksters in patrol cars (led by their long-suffering commander Brian Cox) are little more than overgrown frat boys in a campus rivalry with the brawling Vermont bullies of the local police force, and they know how to have fun on the highway patrol. This skit-like collection of comic moments clumps from one scene to another like a variety show, but the gags are more hit than miss, thanks largely to terrific ensemble work and inspired motorist mind games. With a nod to such 1970s comedies as Animal House and Caddyshack, this “boys in blue just wanna have fun” farce is hardly sophisticated, just clever, raucous fun. –Sean Axmaker

Rather than review the command of this almost universally beloved film, I’m objective going to comment about the quality of the 2006 60th Anniversary Edition DVD itself. I’ve since written an updated review about a unusual edition of this title, now available in a “Two-Disc Collector’s Site.” Please pick up that review — which was posted on December 13, 2008. (Amazon has posted my 2006 review in both places — even though the “60th Anniversary Edition” DVD is DIFFERENT from the “Two-Disc Collector’s Site”. Read my write-up for the “Two-Disc Collector’s Area” — again, it’s DATED 2008 and too early to obnoxious among the “most favorable” reviews — to better choose which product you recall.)

I’ve owned nearly every version of this title in almost every format available on home video during the past 25 years. It’s moral that the Insist of this Viacom/Paramount DVD — including its special features — is identical to the Republic Pictures Home Video release more than 10 years ago.

However, this 60th Anniversary edition is spectacular for several different and extremely notable reasons. (I’ll address the criticisms some people have leveled about the sound on this 2006 DVD in a diminutive bit, so stick with me.)

Buy,Download, Or Stream It’s a Wonderful Life! Click Here

You don’t have to be a technical expert to immediately survey the striking improvement of the report AND sound in this 2006 edition. The print is crystal-clear and in my plan, has more vividness and sharpness than ALL other previous releases of this title on home video.

Proof? I assign my “musty” THX-version DVD issued by Republic Pictures / Artisan Home Video (the worn DVD gold standard for this title) — into my Sony multi-changer DVD player — and watched and listened to every frame of this film AND its special features. I stopped and started this “older” DVD in several spots — and stopped and started the recent 2006 Paramount edition repeatedly — so I could compare quality almost “side-by-side.”

Hands down — this 2006 version is amazing. The spots and dirt have been wiped natty, the sharpness and inequity are arguably better than what film audiences saw 60 years ago. There are no ancient spots, no jumped frames and no lint, fiber or hair fragments along the edges or jumping across the camouflage. I occupy the technicians at Paramount (which acquired Republic Pictures Home Video) — digitally cleaned EVERY frame of the last DVD release — so that the film now looks like a million dollars. It’s almost too pristine, if there is such a thing. No jump cuts, no “jump ahead” sound breaks, no fogged-out scenes, nothing frail — with the result being the cleanest and purest version of “It’s A Extraordinary Life” ever issued in home video history.

It gets better. English subtitles were available on older DVD versions of this title, but the 2006 version has a cleaner typeface, wiping out some of the confusing and unnecessary attributions of “who’s saying what” that were disruptive to some hearing-impaired viewers. In this 2006 version, you’ll gather a mostly straight, line-by-line reading of what’s being said — as it’s being said.

Meanwhile, the DVD’s special features — which include the same pair of documentaries produced in 1990 and 1991 — are identical in that they were shot on video tape hence there isn’t powerful improvement in narrate quality. However, subtitles that WERE NOT available for these special features — are NOW available in this 2006 edition. The only “extra” to the previous “gold standard” that remains unchanged — is the recent 1946 trailer. Subtitles are not available and it has the same raggedness and dirt commonly seen with vintage trailers stored separately from the films they obsolete to advertise.

I’m highly notable of re-issued DVDs that seem nothing more than an excuse to squeeze more dollars out of buyers for the same material with novel packaging. But this 2006 Paramount DVD version of “It’s A Unbelievable Life” is the best to date. It is NOT in color. (I enjoy a colorized version for younger people who can’t stand black-and-white. Despite controversy surrounding colorization, know that the 2007 “Two-Disc Collector’s State” has the same 2006 60th Anniversary black-and-white edition you discover here — plus a current “colorized” version. This version uses the same pristine print — but has the added bonus of boasting the best “color” hues ever seen for this film, using the latest image technology available. Despite my preference for black-and-white, the quality of this unusual colorized version is impressive.)

Meanwhile, let’s address the criticisms about the sound on this unique DVD. Go support a microscopic bit. Mighty was made when Republic Pictures Home Video got the THX LucasFilm sound system seal of approval for “It’s A Fantastic Life” during the 1990s. But it was smooth two-channel mono with negligible equalization of sound effects. In this 2006 DVD, you’ll obtain consistent two-channel mono and decent sound equalization to minimize “booming” and over-modulated portions in the film. In the customary versions, you had to turn down the volume a notch during the musical portions — and turn it serve up when the dialogue came wait on. It’s a nit-pick, but you really watch the dissimilarity if you’re crazy enough to do a side-by-side comparison like I did.

As for the digital sound “pops” that perfectionists support bringing up — they’re true. They’re even in the spots renowned by another stunning reviewer who listed time codes where you can fetch them. But in my thought, unless you brace yourselves for them to come like a booming divulge — unless you purposely crank up your speakers to carry sound throughout your house — yeah, you “might” be annoyed if you request the same perfection for a film made in 1946 as you would for a film made in 2006. Honestly, the disproportionate attention given to these digital “pops” is, in my conception, giving fence-sitters the impression that they’re supersonic cracks of lightning that will build people jump out of their seats. I didn’t twitch at all. They almost “blended” into the 60-year-old soundtrack. Yes, I know they’re digital defects, but do you remember the zillion “pops” scattered throughout dirty prints of “It’s A Astonishing Life” with filthy optical soundtracks? The audio on this 2006 DVD mild wins. You have EVERY Correct to expect perfection for your dollars. But as a person who’s more fastidious than average — I don’t gain most buyers will care about a few “pops” in a film that’s this aged. Combine the overall improvements with the relatively shameful cost of this DVD — and I quiet say this is the BEST experience of “It’s A Amazing Life” I’ve ever SEEN and HEARD on home video.

Finally, another reason to capture this DVD. It’s ancient news to some, but it’s not widely known that this version of “It’s A Amazing Life” can only be broadcast by NBC. It archaic to air a zillion times during the holidays on every TV residence on earth. It was a like a flash map to catch tired of even a well-organized film you consider you know by heart. But Viacom/Paramount now owns this version of “It’s A Unbelievable Life” outright and NBC has strange licensing rights to air it unprejudiced once or twice after Thanksgiving. This is a righteous thing for future generations to like.

So junk the weak, engage this version and be cheerful. It may feel painful, but it’s worth it. And no, I DON’T work for Amazon OR for Paramount Home Video.

A beautifully crafted film that proved to be the apex of triple Oscar-winner (1934, 1936, 1938) Frank Capra’s noted career, and the epitome of his cycle of works celebrating the “approved man”. Mr. Deeds found himself suddenly wealthy, Mr. Smith went to Washington as a Senator, and John Doe became the focus of a socio-political movement; but “Life”’s George Bailey never distinguishes himself outside of his miniature hometown of Bedford Falls — his brother Harry is the one who becomes a war hero, and his friend Sam Wainwright is the one who achieves financial success. George’s triumph is simply his personal integrity, his code of ethics, and his strength of character — his goodness, if you will — during the unexciting course of his ordinary, mundane existence. In this respect, George is more an Everyman than any other Capra protagonist, exciting strong audience identification and response.

In one of the most blooming performances ever given in an American film, James Stewart is good as George. It’s not an easy role to play because so distinguished conceal time is spent focusing on George’s subtle reactions to the world around him. One fantastic moment comes at the grunt position when George slowly begins to believe the news of his brother’s unusual marriage and current career opportunity, and how his brother’s fortune will slay his possess hopes of leaving Bedford Falls and the family business. Stewart’s face is amazing in this scene, as surprised realization fades into aloof disappointment and finally, gentle graciousness and acceptance. Stewart’s tour de force is given strong succor by a trustworthy cast of Capra stalwarts, including Lionel Barrymore, Thomas Mitchell, H. B. Warner, and the phenomenal Beulah Bondi (as George’s mother) . And Donna Reed, in one of her first romantic leading roles after a number of years playing supporting ingenues and bits, is first-rate in the warm but unglamorous role of George’s loving wife, Mary.

The Republic Home Video DVD is definitely the edition of this classic to have. Like the LaserDisc before it, the DVD offers a crystal sure, beautifully restored film-to-video transfer which will amaze and delight anyone who is familiar only with the unfavorable multi-generational VHS cassettes, or the unpleasant colorized version, that were commonly screened serve in the leisurely 1970’s and 1980’s. There are some nice bonus features on the DVD, including a “making of” documentary and the theatrical trailer. This is one DVD that you’ll never regret adding to your home theatre collection!

Trivia note: If you’re a fan of this movie, try finding a copy of film historian David Thomson’s 1985 new “Suspects” which continues George’s legend and relates the characters from this movie to many others (did you know that Donna Reed’s “Mary Bailey” is actually the sister of Gene Tierney’s “Laura”?!, etc.) … huge fun!
